Principal Characters with Multiple Numbers
Updated by Michelle Salatto
In episodic productions, a Principal Character’s number may change from episode to episode. In this case, you can assign different Character numbers to a Principal Character per episode. This can be done during a script revision or at any time during the production.
"MULTI" Characters
The Character numbers that you see for your Principal Characters reflect the episodes you have selected in the Episode Selector.
When you have more than one episode selected, Principal Characters that have different numbers in the selected episodes appear with MULTI in the Char # field. This is visible on various pages on the website.
On the Character Index, any Characters with multiple numbers appear with the MULTI prefix. If you are only viewing one episode, they will be listed in numerical order. If you are viewing multiple episodes, they are sorted below your consistently numbered Principal Characters.
On View pages, you will also see any Characters with multiple numbers appear with the MULTI prefix (e.g. Character View page, Change View page).
Assigning Multiple Numbers to a Principal Character
Character numbers can be updated from the Character Index or a Character View page.
Updating a Character's Number from the Character Index
- Click the Ellipsis in line with a Character and select Edit.
- Click the Gear icon.
- Check the box next to # per episode. This changes the Char # to MULTI and allows you to assign different numbers per episode. When you're ready, click Save.
- Now if you go back to the Character Index, you will see that the Char # has been changed to MULTI.
Updating a Character's Number from a Character View
- Quickly access a Character View page by using the Universal Search bar or clicking on a Character from the Character Index.
- Click the Sidebar Ellipsis and select Edit.
- Click the Gear icon.
- Check the box next to # per episode. This changes the Char # to MULTI and allows you to assign different numbers per episode. When you're ready, click Save.
Assigning a New Number when Adding an Episode
You can assign a new number to an existing Character when you add an episode.
Once you upload your script and reach the Character Confirmation page, a list of Characters in the new episode appears on the left and a list of the existing Characters in the production appears on the right.
Reoccurring Characters in the new episode will automatically be linked with existing Characters.
If a Character has a different number in the new episode, edit the Char # field on the Character Confirmation page. When you're ready, click Continue.
